Common household cleaners often contain chemicals which have been shown as toxic to the immune system. People with allergies and children are highly vulnerable to chemical toxicants like formaldehyde, phenol and toluene. Pets too are vulnerable to chemicals that can be found in common cleaners.
These chemicals can be harmful to the environment if they leak or are carelessly disposed. As they often don't come in not biodegradable containers the landfill for cleaning containers is extravagant. The good news for allergy suffers and parents with small children is that there are other, more environmentally friendly ways.
- Baking soda is an all-purpose, non-toxic cleaner. It will help clean and removes stains while deodorising fabrics.
- Cornstarch can be used to help absorb oils or grease and can be used on clothes in replacement of starch chemicals.
- Lemon juice is great natural alternative to bleach.
- Essential Oils can be used to fragrant the home, leaving it smelling fresh as a daisy!
So why not do what's best for you and your children. Try one of these natural cleaning methods or leave a comment for one you have already tested yourself.
