This week, Diabetes Australia and Vision 2020 have joined forces to educate Australians of the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The National Diabetes Week asks Australian's if they could be a risk of developing diabetes and warns not to be blind to the risks.
Type 2 diabetes continues to be the fastest growing chronic disease in Australia, affecting around 90% of all people with diabetes. While it usually affects older adults, more and more younger people, even children, are being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. With ongoing health and lifestyle complications, including blindness, many Australians will not realise until it is too late.
The Australian Government (Department of Health and Aging) has developed a Diabetes Risk Assessment Tool with Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute. By answering the questions online you will be able to calculate your risk of type 2 diabetes in the next 5 years.
